19th Century Medieval Castle - Saintonge Romane

This old stronghold registerd as a Hisotrical Monument will make you travel in a time out of the ordinary. Your imagination will just be vivid as you follow the steps of Ronsard onto the 2 functional drawbridges. From 1370 to 1720, this building was managed by co-lords and at the end of the 18th century, it was sold as a national estate and shared by 3 farmers. In 1972 the current owner fell in love with the historical logis and devoted 50 years of energy in order to make the estate alive again. The castle is surrounded by dry moats and an irregular polygonal enclosure with buttressed walls protruding at the corner of curtain walls of over 12 meters high. These are crowned by the walkway still present on the facade of the two towers. The logis is soberly furnished, recreating medieval atmosphere. The commoons are fitted for living purposes and can be uused for touristic activites.

Magnificent vaulted cellars have be restored and 2 underground halls were found under a large square tower discoverd in 1993.

Fortified sites of this size are rare in the Saintonge Romane making thei castel particularly interesting.
Numerous events were held : concerts, children's events, shows, night events and even some short films (Denis Podalydès film).
